Surgical Simulation Curriculum at Boston Children’s Hospital: Improving Skills, Outcomes, and Value

Abstract
Since 2012, the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at Boston Children’s Hospital has implemented a surgical simulation curriculum in pediatric orthopaedics, designed to improve trainee education and optimize patient safety and outcomes. The purpose of this review is to briefly describe the current simulation curriculum at Boston Children’s Hospital; provide an example of how these simulation efforts improve safety, outcomes, and value; and discuss recent innovations that are paving the road to future curriculum improvements.
